With so many of us looking for ways to reduce our environmental impact and the amount of packaging entering our homes, we were adamant that LocalBox would address food packaging from the start.

When we can control the decisions about packaging, we weigh up the choices to find something sustainable. That’s how we chose our delivery boxes, which have been made with recycled plastic and which we use over and over again. We also use our freezer packs and cool bags over and over. All of these are easily washed between uses.

We’ve thought and talked a lot about where the packaging challenges and solutions lie and how we can be part of the solution. Since before we started, we hoped that we could have a return and refill system that would allow us to buy produce loose from the supplier and get them to the final consumer in reusable packaging.

Morning Glory Granola

This month is Plastic Free July and we’re excited to be trialling our first return and refill product with brand new granola company, Morning Glory Granola.

Nina from Morning Glory Granola is a local produce hero, using lots of local ingredients in her creative and fun granola mixes. Nina also launched with a return and refill concept using glass jars and she was really happy to work with us on the concept. We will buy the granola loose from Nina and then put it in reusable boxes.

Our new Lock and Lock 100% recycled plastic refill boxes

We found Lock and Lock have a new line of 100% recycled plastic lock lid boxes and so this is what we will be using. They’re colourful, easy to wash and will pack well in our delivery boxes.

This is a trial for us and if it works well and customers like it, we’ll be looking at what other products we can buy loose to fill reusable containers.

We will update on how it goes!
